mares eat oats

I was really proud of how original I thought Baby Girl's name was. I was expecting the world to hear her name and drop their jaws in awe. Everyone would say "That name is amazing. You're amazing. Your child is destined for greatness with parents as capable of originality as you seem to be." But then yesterday, I was minding my own internet business, reading the blogs, when there it was. Her name. Belonging to another child. Someone else was more original. Or at least original before the Walters. ARGH. So anyway, keeping her name hush hush is sort of a moot point now. Plus I've been telling anyone who asks. We're naming her Ivy. Ivy Walter. Doesn't that have a lovely ring to it?

  1. Love it! Beautiful name. Meanwhile, my husband suggested "Chattanooga" for our firstborn girl last night. Heaven help us all.

  2. YES. Much better than Absalom, which is what Jon wants to name our child. Or dog. I don't think he cares about gender.

  3. Lovely. My dad loved Greek names for all of us kids. The long ones. Like Pythagorus and Socrates or Diocletian. Luckily my mom convinced him otherwise.

  4. You be sure to teach that girl to steer clear of little lambs.

  5. I had to talk Stephen out of a few names. He still wants to name her Bowie. As in David. Wayne, I didn't think anyone else knew that song. It's been in my head for weeks.

  6. I was about to write a mildly clever, semi-cryptic comment about lambs, but Wayne beat me to it.

Bravo, übernerds. May we always UNITE!

  7. Also, I have a cousin who named their little girl Ivy. She is the first female born on that side of the family since me, with something like nine boys born before her. Her older brothers' names are Guy and Rex.

    It's a lovely name.
